BUGS – Biomass Utilization by Insects for Green Solutions in Africa through Black Soldier Fly Technology is a project launched by PREVENT members and the leads of the Organic Waste Working Group. The project focuses on evaluating the feasibility of Black Soldier Fly technology for converting organic waste into valuable resources in Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda.
A detailed agenda will follow.
Key highlights of the webinar will include:
- Project Scope: Implementation in Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda, where BSF technology is assessed for its capacity to convert organic waste into protein- and fat-rich feed, with a waste-to-biomass conversion rate of up to 20%.
- Methodology and Guidance: The project team has developed a robust methodology and guide for BSF operators, which is applicable globally.
- Insights from Capacity Building and Collaboration: Through workshops held in early 2024 and ongoing capacity development efforts, the project supports job creation, technology transfer, and the establishment of a BSF Community of Practice across Africa.
- Showcasing the Sustainable Impact: By turning organic waste into marketable resources, BSF technology contributes to sustainable waste management and circular economy practices.
This webinar will provide you with actionable insights and an update on the next steps toward a broader collaboration in the field of BSF-based biowaste management. Please note that this session will be conducted in English, and a French version will be offered the following day.
We look forward to your participation and to exploring how these innovative solutions can drive sustainability in waste management.
Best regards,
